For moms who are not able to breastfeed at all or are unable to breastfeed exclusively, It is so important to give your baby the best substitute to breast milk.

There are different reasons why a mother may be unable to breastfeed, but I guess that will be the topic for another day. Finding the best infant formula should be your focus but how do you know which infant formula is the best?  I began using this from hospital, with my 2nd baby, to supplement breast milk. If you follow my blog and YouTube Channel you would know my babies
are combination fed. Catch that post HERE This was my 2nd time using Aptamil, I had used this from birth with my first daughter, Zara, 3 years ago.

This is my review of Nestle's Nan Infant Formula-Optipro 1
  • OVERVIEW: Nan Optipro 1 is "an infant formula for healthy infants from birth when they are not breastfed. It is described as a 'Premium Starter Infant Formula. It is suitable for babies from 0-6 months. It provides your baby with nutrients essential for optimal physical and mental development". It is manufactured by Nestle, Netherlands. I wondered what 'Optipro' means and on the tin it says "Optipro is an optimized protein blend, which supplies the right amount of proteins needed for your baby's optimal growth, without overloading immature organs". It is prepared with boiled water.
  • PACKAGING:  It comes in a powder form in a 400g tin.
  • PRICE: It is moderately priced and retails for about N2100 at the time. I consider it to be affordable.
  • TASTE: It tastes okay and like regular formula. The taste is different from breast milk.
  • PROS & CONS: A positive for me is that the price point is great. It is also a mass market brand and widely available in grocery stores, supermarkets, pharmacies, etc.
  • While on the downside i felt it was grainy and not smooth enough. I used it till baby was 4          weeks old and stopped because my baby developed diarrhea. I was following the preparation instruction on the tin and maintain good hygiene and storage. I took baby to the hospital and the doctor could not identify the cause(i can't say for sure if it triggered the diarrhea or not). I followed my mum's advise to discard that tin and buy a new one. But i decided to discontinue usage afterwards.
  • EFFECTIVENESS: It is effective and does what it says on the tin. It was also good for my baby who had colic and did not make her too gas-y. It was recommended by my OBGYN. I would recommend it to others.
  • RATING:⭐⭐⭐
